I am pleased to announce that an effort is under way to relaunch the Americas Chapter of the International Association of Refugee Law Judges. The Americas Chapter was launched in the early 2000’s with the collaboration of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada, the Federal Court of Canada, the United States, Mexico and Costa Rica. The bylaws for the Americas chapter were approved by the International body in Germany, in May of 2003.
Justice Russel Zinn was appointed a judge of Canada’s Federal Court in February 2008. The Federal Court has supervisory jurisdiction over the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada. As such, the Court reviews decisions regarding claims for refugee protection and subsidiary protection.
